Setting: Clinical and Mobile

Role: Recovering from anesthesia is a critical period for our patients. The placement of PI/PACU physicians in the recovery room allows us to provide a safe environment for patients undergoing surgery. Recognition of potential complications and responding with life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills are essential to providing the best level of post-operative monitoring and care.

Time Commitment: 12 to 14 days

When: Ongoing

Application Deadline: Ongoing

Requirements: Registered in Specialty and practiced within the past 2 years – achieved highest level of certification. A physician trained and experienced in pediatric perioperative care, pain management, the recognition of post-operative complications and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent course. May have background or experience in the following areas: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), ICU setting that regularly cares for infants and children, Pediatric Anesthesiologist.

Cost: Partially self-funded, partially org-funded. There is a $ 500 CAD team fee for those who have been on fewer than 25 missions. This helps to cover the cost of breakfasts, lunches and accommodation while on the mission. Operation Smile covers the cost of flights.
