Website Operation Smile

Setting: Clinical and Mobile

Role: The majority of the patients we serve are children, so we rely on the knowledge and insight of pediatricians to interpret the entire health picture of each of our patients. Our pediatrician’s input is critical to our pre-operative comprehensive health evaluations, which determine if children are healthy enough to receive surgery. They continue to care for patients after surgery and ensure families are prepared to take their child home.

Time Commitment: 12 to 13 days

When: Ongoing

Application Deadline: Ongoing

Requirements: Currently licensed and in good standing. Graduate of specialty training in pediatrics and achieved the highest level of certification. Demonstrated clinical competence. Certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent course. Currently caring for pediatric patients.

Cost: Partially self-funded, partially org-funded. There is a $ 500 CAD team fee for those who have been on fewer than 25 missions. This helps to cover the cost of breakfasts, lunches and accommodation while on the mission. Operation Smile covers the cost of flights.
