Setting: Disaster Zones
Role: The purpose of the Ob-Gyn Medical Officer position is to assist in delivering life-saving programs in disasters in a holistic and sustainable way, keeping in mind how the emergency response will set the ground work for transitional and development programs. Duties can involve assisting in deliveries (including Cesarean section), providing prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) treatment to HIV-positive pregnant women, and care for patients suffering from sexual violence-related injuries. Additionally, performing both emergency and planned ob-gyn surgeries, manage obstetric complications (such as instrumental deliveries), manage post-operative follow-up, train and support both surgical and midwifery staff, etc.
Time Commitment: 2 to 5 Weeks (or longer)
When: Ongoing. Must be able to deploy with 24-72 Hours.

Requirements: MD or DO and current license. Current or recent practical experience (i.e. at least 6 months of clinical practice). Experience in emergency surgeries and with complicated deliveries. Training in tropical medicine and/or infectious diseases (especially HIV/AIDS, TB) is an advantage.
Cost: Volunteers are responsible to pay for their travel, visas, immunizations, and any travel insurance. In-country food and lodging expenses are included for certain programs. Please contact MTI for more details.
