Setting: Clinic

Role: You may be volunteering at clinics with outpatient services, HIV and TB services, maternity services, and pharmacies. Your duties here may include: Filing patient records; Observing patient care and seeing how healthcare services function in Zambia; Volunteers will accompany local caregivers to patient homes to provide treatment. Here you may be required to: Provide comfort, care, and advice; Inform patients about the importance of hygiene, nutrition, diet, and adhering to medication regiment. In addition, with the help of local staff, volunteers will facilitate community courses to deliver important healthcare information about HIV/AIDS awareness, basic hygiene and the importance of healthy living (diet and exercise).

Time Commitment: Min.  2 Weeks (up to 12 Weeks)

When: Ongoing – Start is every Monday; From January 2023 – December 2024

Requirements: Volunteers are required to have a clear criminal record check; High school diploma is required for all volunteers staying longer than 4 weeks; Immunizations (proof of Yellow Fever vaccination required for travel into Zambia; Proof of medical qualifications if wanting to work in maternity wards; and basic English.

Cost: Costs range from $1,590 to $4,190 USD. Volunteers are responsible for flights, purchase of a business visa, temporary employment permit, travel health insurance, lunches, daily transport to and from project (approx. $5 per day), personal expenses.
