Close the Gaps to Stop the Spread of Infectious Diseases

The Canadian Medical Foundation has been creating a better world by supporting and inspiring philanthropy among physicians since 1987. We have partnered with Canadians and communities in Canada and internationally to improve global health through a variety of charitable programs such as financial aid for medical students, research and programming to address physician well-being, and medical outreach internationally

With the COVID-19 pandemic that has gripped our world, our priority focus is the prevention of infectious diseases through projects that address gaps in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) efforts.

Whoever you are and wherever you live, correct hand hygiene is a foundational step required to help stop the spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, and it requires both knowledge and resources. Especially in times of pandemics, new cracks and holes in systems are magnified and more easily identified as gaps or barriers to infection prevention.  Every community in the world might face slightly different challenges to assuring all members have correct hand hygiene practices. And we all know, the virus anywhere, can impact us all everywhere.

Time is of the essence for us all to do whatever we can to help strengthen the prevention and control of infection in communities which may not have access to knowledge or resources without support. Therefore, the Canadian Medical Foundation is working with partners to help close some of these gaps that affect their communities and can, therefore, affect us all.

Often the seemingly smallest interventions can make the largest impact. On this page we will be highlighting some of the work our partners are doing at the community level both in Canada and outside of Canada to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Please consider donating towards our Stop the Gaps program and help us continue to work with partners to stop the spread of infection.

We’re all in this together as a global community.
